December 2005 Tournament Results:
Gentlemen,
Doing a little catch-up here, we now bring you the results of the December tournament.
But first, a word from our sponsor.
We thank again, David Montero, from Heineken USA, for the tremendous raffle prizes he brought along for this month’s tourney. David has agreed to sponsor future tournaments with the same type of prizes he had this month from his various brands, Heineken, Dos Equis, Tacate and Amstel Light. We extend our sincere gratitude for his kindness this year.
We would also like to thank our other sponsors this year, Andres Marquez from the Links Grill, (Mrs.) Roberto Calvalcanti from The Mendoza Restaurant, Luigi Buraschi from Texaco, and Basil Trowbridge from the Comfort Suites in Orlando (soon to change to another hotel in Orlando cuz he just changed jobs).
This month was the year-ending, President’s Cup tournament played under the Stableford system, where points are awarded for bogey, par. birdie and eagle.
Yours truly, El Presidente, was unable to play once again due to injury (which has nothing to do with the point system). This time, knee surgery. The old bones ain’t as supple as they used to be, but been going to re-hab so should be fine by the January tournament.
First Place Low Gross (which has nothing to do with the point system. either) went to Michael Myles, who fired a 3-under par, 69. Mike was actually on pace for a 67, had I not shown up on the 17th hole (bogey) to disrupt, er, rather, watch his match. But we don’t care, cuz his “London Lass” was there so I had a good lookin’ babe to talk to.
Honorable mention goes to Greg Huxman (for his play, not the way he looks) for shooting the only other round under par (70). These kids are both +2 handicaps, so since it would be REAL hard to lower their handicaps, I’m thinking of just tossing them out of the association all together, yadda ya think?
Speaking of London, capturing first place, with a smooth 40 points, was our British buddy, Ken Forsyth. It’s been a long time since we’ve welcomed Kenny to the winner’s circle, but since he roots for the wrong side in the Ryder Cup matches, we really didn’t miss him all that much.
Taking second place with a total of 37 points was our buddy, David Freedman who, back in the day, actually played in a Curtis Cup competition with Jack Nicklaus, so we’re watching his handicap as well.
Third place was Randy Potter (whose father’s name really is Harry) with a tying 37 points, but lost out on a matching of the score cards. Randy is a 12 handicap, but since he’s friends with David and Roger, we’ll say we’re watching his handicap, too, just for the hell of it.
Closest-to-the-pin honors this month went to:
Hole # 6: Mike Myles, who stuck it a mere 1’ 4’ and easily tapped in the birdie putt on the way to his 68.
Hole #12: Tom Horst, who nestled it in there 3’ 11’ from the cup and drained his putt, as well.
Long Drive Hole #14: Goes to the Dalai Lama, himself, Greg Huxman, who put it out there a country mile. (Big hitter, the Lama … Long.)
Once again, a few more of the club championship matches were played, but I’ll sum those up for you soon in another announcement.
On behalf of the board of Directors, I would like to thank you all for your continued support of our association this past year. It has been a pleasure sharing the game we all love, with all of you.
See you at the January tournament.
Happy New Year!
Bill Hayes
