July 2005 Tournament Results:
Gentlemen,
Please join me in welcoming new members, Antonio Barreto and Laurent Lefebvre, to the association. They both played in the July tournament and did not embarrass themselves too badly for the first time out. (Unlike me, who does it monthly.)
We also want to give a very special thank you to David Montero, from Heineken USA for bringing all the Amstel goodies and Amstel beer for the tournament. As you can see from the pictures, some members enjoyed it more than others, eh, Roger?
I heard the give-a-ways were plentiful – shirts, hats, etc, - because I wasn’t at the tournament due to family vacation reasons. (How come all the good stuff happens when I’m not playing?)
Anyway, David has kindly agreed to do it all over again for the August tournament, except this time with their Heineken brand. So sign up now and enjoy the festivities. Thanks again, David.
This month’s tournament was played using the Red, White and Blue format, which had members with handicaps ranging from +2 (Greg!) thru 9 teeing off from the Blue tees, handicaps from 10 – 19 teeing off from the whites and handicaps 20 and higher teeing off from the forward tees. It was a full handicap tournament with the prizes going to the lowest net score from each tee.
And the winners were:
Low Net, Blue Tees: Roger Huxman, with a net score of 71. He shot a 75 but has a 4 handicap which nets down to a 71. His son, Greg, however, shot a 74, which was the low gross score for the day but had to give 2 strokes back to the field and ended with a net 76. Nice shooting to both of you but the prize goes to the old man this time. (And based on the pictures, he’ll need it to offset what’s sure to be a costly divorce.) (Just ask Joe Corderi)!
Low Net, White Tees: The first place winner was Gabriel Sanchez-Zinny, who posted a gross score of 90 which, with his 18 handicap, netted down to a 72.
Low Net, Red (Gold) Tees: Hernan Rodriquez, who with his 24 handicap ended up with a net 71. We like to see the newer members win. Now, if we can only get the Huxman’s to go wherever it was that Marvin Marcus went, then I’ll be really happy!
Closest-to-the-pin honors this month went to:
6th Hole: Andrew Hall. We’re not sure how close it was because we didn’t use the measuring tapes. (See above where it says that I wasn’t there). Anyway, Andrew made the putt for a birdie so we’re guessing it was a tap-in, at most.
12th Hole: For the second consecutive month, Randy Potter stuck it closest on this par three. It must have been longer than the 2’ 3” he put it last month cuz he ended up with a par on the hole. But, congratulations again, Bo, on some fine iron play.
Long Drive: Hole 14 was once again the victim of long-baller, Greg Huxman, who pounded it out there past everybody, from the blue tees. As a matter of fact, he hit it further than everyone who teed off from both the white AND the gold tees! (Remind me to eliminate this prize the next time Greg comes back to town.)
And finally, for the first time in the history of the KBMGA, this month’s newly created, yet highly coveted; “Get That Kid Outta Here!” award goes to a non-member. (And if I have my way, will never be a member). Seems that our tournament director, J.R. Diaz, brought his son, Stefano, to play in the tournament as his guest. The kid has an established handicap of 18 from the gold tees, which conveniently fit into our format this month.
So anyway, the punk-of-the-month goes and shoots a gross score of 88 and beats the next closest member who teed off from the gold’s by 5 strokes! Not only did he have the lowest score from the forward tees, he had a net 70 which would have beaten every member in the tournament for low net score!
Did I mention that the kid is only 11 years old? (Note to Stefano: Please go away and leave us old men alone!) Thank you.
That will do it for now, folks. The next tourney is August 20th and the Heineken girls will be waiting!
See you on the course.
Sincerely,
Bill Hayes
