October 2005 Tournament Results:

Gentlemen,

Let us first take this opportunity, once again, to thank our friend, David Montero, with Heineken USA for sponsoring this month’s tournament with the Amstel Light brand.  We really do appreciate it, David.

October’s tournament was medal play and was the last chance to qualify for the club championship matches.  More on that, later.

Prizes went out to the first place, low gross score, and first, second and third places in the low net category.

And the winners are:

First Place, Low Gross:  Roger Huxman with an unbeatable 74 with four birdies along the way.

First Place, Low Net:  Goes to our humble, yet charming, El Presidente with a blistering 67.  This, ladies and gentlemen, with what seemed like a three-putt on every green.  (Except for the 2nd … I four-jacked that one).

Second Place, Low Net:  Randy (Bo) Potter with a smooth 70.

Third Place, Low Net:  Mr. Tournament Director himself, J.R. Diaz with a 73.

It was a difficult day for scoring but we acknowledge and appreciate our member’s honesty by recording scores such as:  a 10 on the par-5, 10th; a 13 on the par-5, 4th; a 15 on the par-5, 1st, and, yes, a 16 on the par 3, 3rd.  I will not name those members who recorded those scores, (you know who you are) but we do appreciate your honesty and integrity.

Closest-to-the-pin honors this month went to:

Hole #6:  El Presidente Preciso, who stuck it 3’ 7” from the hole and confidently rapped it in for the bird.

Hole #12:  Roger Huxman who put it 8’ 5” from the stick and rapped his in for bird, as well.

Long Drive Hole #14:  Pat Michalik who pounded it out past everybody’s reach.  (At least those who hit the fairway).

And last but not least, our newly created, yet highly coveted, “Nice Birdie” award goes to (no, not Roger, who had four, not Pat Michalik, who had a pair, and not even me, who had the now famous birdie on the 6th hole {see above}).

No, this award goes to fellow member and staff photographer, Bob Alt, who while riding in the passenger side of his cart, was hit by a low flying, obviously directionally challenged bird that nailed Bob smack in the shoulder at full speed.

Now where’s a picture of THAT when you need it?

That’s it for now.

Next tournament is Saturday, November 19.  Sign up now by clicking on the registration tab above.

See you out there.

Sincerely,

Bill Hayes
El Presidente Firstplaceo

p.s. My luck … I get first place AND closest-to-the-pin and we give the winnings to the Red Cross for the hurricane Katrina relief.  Did I mention I lost my screened pool enclosure in hurricane Wilma?  (Not that I’m bitter).
