August 2006 Tournament Results:
Gentlemen,
Let’s start off by welcoming a few new members to the association:
Hollis Batchelor
Erisbel Cabrera
George Fisher
Paul Freeman
Lon Hicks
Jeff Waxman
If I’ve forgotten anyone, forgive me. We welcome all of you to the KBMGA.
This month’s tournament format was Match Play against Par, in which your match play opponent was Old Man Par, himself (who always shoots par on every hole).
First Place: Tom Horst, who beat par 4-up. Just a typical day for Tom. He started out by delivering a baby at 1:00 am, comes to the course, has breakfast and proceeds to win the tournament.
Second Place: Gino Delgado, who was +3 on the day and had a natural bird on hole #7.
Third Place: Reynaldo Berney, who was +2.
Now, just a little note about Gino and Rey. I had originally awarded second place to Joe Corderi and third place to Neil Christiansen until Gino and Rey realized they had written down a total of -3 and -2 respectively instead of +3 and +2.
The bad part was not that they made me look like an idiot (I’m used to that) by announcing the wrong winners, the bad part was Joe’s kids were at the lunch after the tournament and had to watch me take the money away from their dad. (Editor’s note: This is the part where Gino and Rey are supposed to feel bad).
O.k. back to the results.
Closest-to-the-pin awards this month went to:
Hole #6 and Hole #12: George Thibault, who went on to birdie both holes for a total of three birds for the day.
Long Drive: Hole #14: Tom Horst. Hmmm … maybe I should hang around delivery rooms more often. (Hey, even if my golf game doesn’t improve, maybe I’ll get breast fed).
And no recap would be complete without this month’s newly created, yet highly coveted, “Finally, somebody brings a little credibility to this Association” award, which goes to Greg Huxman. This month’s award is the most prestigious award in the history of the NCYHC awards. This, folks, is special.
It seems young Gregory played his way into the United States Amateur. He recently went up to Minnesota (don’t cha know) and competed at Hazelton and some other course I’ve forgotten and am too lazy to look it up again.
Greg shot a gross 68 on our course in the July tournament from the blue tees, so you know the kid’s got game.
So, Greg, on behalf of the entire membership, I would like to congratulate you on your recent accomplishment. You make us all proud.
Oh, one last thing … in case I get sick anytime soon, I’ve had papers drawn up to temporarily cede presidential power to my brother.
That’s it for now.
Sincerely,
Bill Hayes
