December 2007 Tournament Results:
Gentlemen,
We, once again, take this time to thank our sponsors for their support this past year. I know our members have used our sponsor’s services and all were very pleased with their experience. We look forward to our continued relationship.
There were pictures taken by Steve “Man, I was stylin’” Takach and myself of this month’s tournament and awards ceremony and he sent them to me but nothing came through, so am sending this month’s recap with last month’s pictures. (Which is basically a photo album of Roger “I can’t beat Freedman if he’s up at the white tees” Huxman, but more about him later).
And even though I was on the injured reserve list and could not play, the tournament this month was the crowd favorite (as evidenced by the turnout) President’s Cup and it was contested using the Stableford format in which points are awarded for bogey, par, birdie and eagle. The player with the highest number of points is the winner.
First Place: Goes to David “I can’t beat Huxman from the blue tees, anymore” Freedman, with a total of 40 points. There is good news and bad news when winning the President’s Signature tournament:
1. Your handicap goes down.
2. But you get the prestigious “President’s Cup” trophy as well as a 3-day/2-night stay (penthouse, President’s Suite) at the International Plaza Resort & Spa in Orlando and two tickets to Universal Studios. And if anyone wants to know how deluxe the accommodations are, just ask fellow member, Randy “Don’t call me Bo” Potter, who just came back from the resort after cashing in his prize from last year’s presidents cup tournament. (Notice Randy did not win again this year).
Second Place: Went to Antonio “I lost by one point?” Barreto, who was nipping at the heels of the winner all day, with a total of 39 points.
Third Place: Beating out two other competitors in a matching of the score cards was Jorge “Wadda ya mean I’m not a member, you cashed my check!” Melendez, with 37 points.
They each received gift certificates to Novecento Restaurant.
The low gross round of the day (there was no prize, even though I said there was one on the web site) went to Roger “Why no low gross prize?” Huxman, and although our tournament director, Phil “I AM the Sterling Cup” Josephson has the scorecards so I don’t know what Roger shot, I’m sure it was somewhere under par. (Note to Roger: See “First Place” item #1 above.
But Roger did successfully defend his club championship title this year against Mike “Roger got lucky!” Black. That makes three times in the last five years Roger has hoisted the club championship trophy. Only Neil “I used to be good” Christiansen has won the two other championships. Congratulations to you, Roger. And now that Greg “Do I have to graduate?” Huxman is still in college and Tim “I got deported?” Satow is still in South Africa, all we have to do is figure out a way to get Roger and Neil sent somewhere so the rest of the members can have a chance.
Closest-to-the-pin honors this month went to:
Hole #6: Hollis “I must have been the only one to hit the green” Batchelor.
Hole #12: Hector “I run Novecento Restaurant” Perraza.
They each either did receive or will receive (I can’t remember) a bottle of champagne courtesy of Dr.Carlos “Plastic surgeon to the stars” Wiegering.
Long Drive, Hole #14 went to Hollis “I must have been the only one to hit the fairway” Batchelor who won something as well (see lame excuse above).
This has been a fun year and I want to thank each of you personally for making our association a success. Without you guys showing up for our monthly tourneys, it would be just me making up stuff and annoying you via e-mail. Oh yeah, and sitting around one Thursday evening each month drinking with the boys, I mean, board.
Which brings us to this year’s final, newly created, yet highly coveted, “There Was One?” award, which I must humbly accept on my own behalf.
After lunch was served, numerous pitchers of beer were consumed, the results were announced and the club championship trophies were handed out, I thanked the crowd, said goodbye and proceeded to order numerous more pitchers. And, just when you think it’s over, some wise guy yells out, “What about the election of next year’s officers?”
Well before I knew what happened, the crowd was applauding and congratulating Tom, Phil and me.
Now, I know I missed the tournament, but I thought for sure I was there for lunch.
Here’s to a great 2008!
Sincerely,
Bill “This will be my seventh year?” Hayes
El Presidente Para Vida.
