February 2007 Tournament Results:
Gentlemen,
Before I announce the winners, a quick note about our new teaching professionals at the course.
Alex Fernandez, Director of Instruction at the Crandon Golf Academy, and his two associates have offered a special deal to the KBMGA members: Half price off a full lesson, including a high-tech video analysis of your swing (which will be shown on either the Golf Channel or You Tube, depending on how it looks on video). The only stipulation is that the lesson be with a group of four golfers. So, if anybody is brave enough to have your swing captured on tape, give Alex a call at: 786.253.2548 or email him at: cgafernandez@hotmail.com. (Call me, I’ll go with you).
This month’s tournament was “Meghan’s Choice” which is a Four-Ball format. (Although, after Phil got done screwing around with the pairings, it didn’t resemble Meghan’s choice very much, so we owe her another chance.)
The two-man team winners were:
First Place: David Freedman and George Thibault, who combined for a team score of 63. We know who carried whom, cuz I played with George a few months ago and trust me, it wasn’t him.
Second Place: Stephen Takach and El Presidente Supremo Grande, who came in with a score of 64 and are still seething with rage over their one stroke loss. Oh, and by the way … thanks for carrying me, Steve.
Third Place: Neil Christiansen and Manny Gonzalez, who had a team score of 65. 74 was the highest score on the day so everybody was in the hunt throughout the day.
Closest-to-the-pin honors this month went to:
Hole #6: Mike Black, who stuck it a mere 1’7” from the hole. Now, we don’t have the scorecards, (Phil J. keeps those to keep track of the Sterling Cup totals for us) but we’re guessing he made the putt. And since I need the money, I’ll bet ten bucks he made it. (See below).
Hole#12: Andrew Hall, who put it 10’2” and we’re guessing he just lipped out for his tap-in par.
Long Drive Hole #14: Tim Satow, although we had one of the members write on the card that he was 30 yards past Tim’s ball but was not in the fairway. Didn’t put a name next to it though, so we’ll just assume it was me.
Congratulations to all the winners and beginning this month, the Closest-to-the-pin and Long Drive winners will each receive a bottle of fine wine compliments of fellow member, Dr. Carlo Wiegering. We thank the good doctor for his generosity. (And to those winners who don’t drink, I, personally, appreciate your generosity).
Instead of a Newly Created, Yet Highly Coveted award this month, we will take this time to complain (bitch, really) about a friendly wager I made with fellow member, Keith Chasin, under a tent at the eighth green at the Doral tournament during Thursday’s first round.
Yours truly, opened his big mouth and declared that, “Whoever is in the lead after the first round will not be within four shots of the winner on Sunday. (Hey, the Heineken was cold).
Keith, being a man of opportunity, turned to me and said, “Ten Bucks?” And I, being a man of idiocy said, “You’re on”.
I’m not sure which was more painful Sunday … Watching Robert Allenby shoot the day’s low round of 66, or watching Tiger purposely make a bogey on the 18th to let Allenby get within 4 strokes. (I already had the money spent).
That’s it for now.
Sincerely,
Bill Hayes
El Presidente Stupido-Head
