October 2007 Tournament Results:
Gentlemen,
Right off the top, we would like to again thank our sponsors for their generosity and support of our association. It is truly appreciated.
We maxed out our allotment and had a full field for the second and final qualifying round for this year’s club championships, allowing many members to improve their Sterling Cup standings. I. unfortunately, wasn’t one of them as I failed to break 100 on what was a very good day for going low.
Me, not breaking 100, is like Tiger missing a cut. Hopefully, it only happens once in a career.
This month’s tournament was medal play and determined the finalists for this year’s club championship matches. Those results have already been sent out to the membership.
This month’s tournament results are:
First Place, Low Gross: Roger Huxman who fired a 1-over par 73 giving him the prize and the number one seed in the championship flight. Congratulations, Roger.
First Place, Low Net: David Marshall (69), who took the #2 seed in the championship flight.
Second Place, Low Net: Gino Delgado (70) who took the number two seed in the A Flight and, on a matching of the score cards, beat out …
Third Place, Low Net winner, David Freedman (70) who earned the number 1 seed in the A Flight. David was playing his usual “one-man scramble” format.
Closest-to-the-pin honors this month went to:
Hole #6: David Freedman (but, then again, he was playing a scramble).
Hole #12: Tom Horst, who had to wrestle the prize bottle of wine from the grasps of Andrew Hall, who was erroneously awarded the prize before an official recount.
Note to David Freedman: We only had two bottles of wine, one white and one red. I awarded the hole 6 winner the bottle of wine before I got to announcing the winner on hole 12. Your good buddy, Roger Huxman, was kind enough to offer to deliver the bottle of wine to you. I asked him which you would prefer, white or red, he said red and I gave him the bottle. After Tom Horst won, he said he prefers red as well, so, I snatched the red from in front of Roger and gave it to Tom. Upon Roger’s protest I explained to him that the person that remains to receive their prize gets first choice. Thus, you got the white. So stick around a while.
But, now having said all that, I’m not so sure that Roger wasn’t going to keep the bottle of red and forget about your absent ass altogether.
Now where was I?
Oh yeah … Long Drive on hole 14 went to Andrew Hall so we were able to give him something after teasing him with the vino.
So that brings us to the much anticipated, newly created, yet highly coveted, “Why You, not Me?” award which goes to our tournament director (and now the most admired member in the association), Phil Josephson. I called Mr. Josephson, as he is now referred; to ask him a question about his upcoming playoff match against Neil Christiansen and get this … He was playing golf, with the Playboy bunnies all around him, and couldn’t talk because he had to get over to “The Mansion” for an evening soirée with the playmates.
WHAT???
Phil?
With playmates?
At a party?
At the Mansion?
Note to Phil: (and I say this as a staunch heterosexual) … “I love you, man!”
Sincerely,
Purple Hayes
