September 2007 Tournament Results:

Gentlemen,

Another quick, but appreciative shout out to our sponsors for their continued support of our association. And a welcome to our newest sponsor, Key Golf. We’ll have the link to their web site online soon.

As for this month’s tournament, it was the first of two qualifying rounds for the 2007 club championships. We played a tournament within a tournament by having a blind draw to form the two-man teams.

The winners were:

First Place, Low Gross: Our tournament director and Sterling Cup sponsor, Phil Josephson. P.J. posted an 80 on a tough scoring day. He received a check for $75 from the KBMGA.

First Place, Low Net: Rick (Go Low) Kwacz, who had a net 70 and also received a $75 check.

First Place, Team Net: Goes to Mariano Torres-Garcia and Mike Black who were paired up in a blind draw of scorecards after the match was completed. They each received a $75 gift certificate to Novecento Café, Restaurant & Bar.

Second Place, Team Net: Went to the team of Lee Smith and Jose R. Diaz. (Maybe that’s why Lee asked to be paired up with J.R. for the October tournament). Each received a $50 gift certificate to Novacento.

(Note to Mariano, Mike and Lee … I have your gift certificates. Let me know how best to get them to you.)

Closest-to-the-pin prizes went to:

Hole #6: One of the most underrated yet up-and-coming young stars in the association, me.

Hole #12: One of the newest, yet overrated young stars, Steve Conley.

We each took home a bottle of red wine courtesy of our sponsor, Dr. Carlos Wiegering (or did we drink it at the after party? I forget.)

Long Drive Hole #14: Rick “The Mighty Duck” Kwacz who pounded it down the fairway way, way past everybody else. (You hear an echo?) Rick received a $50 gift certificate to Vito’s Italian Restaurant.

And finally but unfortunately, we will not be presenting this month’s newly created, yet highly coveted, “You Stupid Bonehead! How Many Surgeries Are You Going To Get Because of ONE Stupid Golf Shot?” award, because alas, I’m headed into surgery again on Oct. 30th. (Left wrist this time.)

The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, money be sent to the, Bill “Bonehead” Hayes foundation, c/o the KBMGA.

Remember, the October tournament is the last chance to qualify for the 2007 club championships.

That’s it for now.
