August 2008 Tournament Results:
Gentlemen,
A thank you, once again, to our sponsors, whoever they are, for their support of our association.
This month’s tournament was a two man format using the best of the team’s net scores on the par 4’s and 5’s, and combined net scores on the par 3’s. I had to leave right after the tourney because I had family in town and was going to see my beloved Cubs play the Marlins that evening. (We were both losers that day.)
Speaking of losers, I teamed up with the Huxman twins and David Freedman. Not to say I was a burden to my partner, Greg, but the only time my score was used was on the par 3’s.
You’d think that playing with some very good players it would be easy to concentrate on your golf, but no! It was like playing with a bunch of children. Between the jokes, the shenanigans and David stealing the rangers flag every time he stopped by, I forgot about the golf part of the day. Thanks, boys.
This month’s winners were:
First Place: the team of Juan Porro and Jorge Dighero. Not sure what the score was because our tournament director just gave me the winner’s names without their scores. And since I’m not even sure what a winning score would look like in this format, let’s just say that it came down to a dramatic finish with Jose and Jorge just playing well enough to win.
Second Place: Allan Sepe and Andrew Waks. Once again, not sure of their score but I think I read somewhere that it came down to a dramatic finish with Allan and Andy not playing well enough to win.
Third Place: Roger Huxman and David Freedman. What? These guys won something? But I played with them and they didn’t look that good. I think they cheat.
Closest-to-the-pin honors this month went to:
Hole #6: Our tournament director himself, Phil Josephson, who put it 5’7” from the hole but had to settle for par. Did I mention that Phil is the proud sponsor for the year-end StErling Cup awards?
Hole #12: Our good friend, Neil Christiansen, who settled for par after missing from 11’6”. Good to have you back, Neil. Now tell your buddy, Jay Flynn to go away.
The long drive award on hole #14, went to Roger Huxman. (Maybe he wasn’t such a loser, after all.)
As I said earlier, I had to leave right after the tournament so I was not able to hang around and get any stories about anyone, so you’re all lucky in that respect.
But that doesn’t mean we can’t give out this month’s newly created, yet highly coveted, “They Didn’t Forget About Me, Did They?” award to Ned Shandloff.
You see, Ned was up at the Mayo Clinic (something about a gender augmentation procedure) but still calls Andy Waks on his cell phone at 7:00 on the morning of the tournament so he could just be part of the gang.
Ned, that’s sweet, and seriously, the entire membership joins me in wishing you … would get a life!
That’s it for now. September’s tournament is the first of two qualifying rounds for this year’s club championships. See you all there.
Sincerely,
Bill Hayes
Dr. Presidente
