January 2008 Tournament Results:
Gentlemen,
As always, we sincerely thank our sponsors for their continued support of our association. And speaking of sponsors … fellow member Hector Peraza of Novecento fame, has moved back to his native Uruguay. We thank him for his sponsorship support and friendship and wish him well in his future endeavors. We’ll miss you, Hector.
And in a related item, Hector and Hollis Batchelor won the closest-to-the-pin awards in the December tournament (a bottle of champagne, compliments of Dr. Carlos Wiegering). Hector received his and I owe Hollis the other bottle which is sitting in my house, calling my name every time I pass by.
We welcome new members Raul Montaner and Bob Schneckenberg, both claiming to be a 12 handicap. (We’ll see boys, well see.) On behalf of the board of directors and our entire membership, welcome to the asylum. er, association.
Additionally, we must acknowledge fellow member, Mike Black, who, showing he’s more than just a great golfer, proved to everyone that he is a bi-athlete by entering the recent ING Miami Half Marathon and beating everyone in the field. (Except of course, Roger Huxman).
Now on to the tourney results.
This month’s format was two-man, best-ball, a net team format counting only the better of the two team member’s scores on each hole.
Presidential Note: Due to an error by the scoring committee, the announced winners at the tournament luncheon have changed slightly.
First Place: The team on Jamie Moreno and Andy Waks, who combined to card an unbeatable score of 65.
Although, close on their heels were three other teams with scores of 66. We had to go to a matching of the scorecards to determine the second and third place winners and the results were:
Second Place: The team of Randy Potter and Ned Shandloff, who were originally announced as our third place winners.
Third Place: The team of Gino Delgado and Andrew Hall, who had been announced as second place.
The other team turning in a 66 was the Tim Henshaw / Roberto Cavalcanti pairing. (Just think, Roberto, if Tim had made just one putt you could have come in first place instead of tying for nothing.) At least that’s what Tim said about you.
Closest-to-the-pin honors this month went to:
Hole #6: Roberto Cavalcanti who, now that he’s retired, may show up in the winner’s circle more often.
Hole #12: Brad Richter. Both members went on to make par but scored net birdies on their 2008 Sterling Cup standings.
Long drive, hole #14: Went to John Herman who, probably because of a bonehead move by El Prez, putting everybody off the white tees, blasted it by all us mortals. Our congratulations to all our winners.
Although there was no low gross prize this month, it would have gone to Roger Huxman (what a surprise) who came in with the day’s low round of 1-over par, 73.
And finally, our newly created, yet highly coveted, “Yes dear. I’m sorry. I’ll try to never do that again” award goes to newlywed member, Tom Horst.
Nuff said?
Sincerely,
Bill Hayes
